3 NFL coaches who earned their pink slips in Week 9
By Scott Rogust
1. Frank Reich, Colts
The Indianapolis Colts entered this season by bringing in another quarterback outside of the organization to be their starter. In just seven weeks, the Colts pulled the plug on the Matt Ryan experiment, and opted to name second-year quarterback Sam Ehlinger as their new starter.
That was only the start of the news. Owner Jim Irsay gave the okay to make the switch, then declared that head coach Frank Reich’s job was safe. Ever since that reported proclamation, the Colts have lost their next two games, including Week 9.
Facing off against the New England Patriots, the Colts offense couldn’t do anything, and we mean anything. Reich called 60 offensive plays, and they could only pick up 121 yards of offense. That’s an average of 2.0 yards per play. While Ehlinger passed for 103 yards, he was sacked nine times for a loss of 60 yards, giving the team a net passing yards total of 43.
There’s no denying that the Colts need to address the quarterback position and find a long-term solution once and for all. But should Reich still be the head coach to oversee this change?
