Oregon is now in prime position to make the playoff should the Ducks win out

Overall, no conference benefits more from Alabama, Clemson and Tennessee all losing on Saturday than the Pac-12. While we should expect USC and UCLA to be ranked inside of the top 10 this week as well, this is undeniably huge for Oregon, the only team in the Pac-12 without a conference loss up to this point. Despite a bad blowout loss to Georgia, the Ducks could still get in.

The Pac-12 notoriously cannibalizes itself on the regular, meaning coming out of it 9-0 is nothing to sneeze at. Where the league has struggled is in the non-conference, as illustrated by Oregon’s loss to Georgia and Utah’s loss at Florida during Labor Day Weekend. However, the Selection Committee will allow a team to overcome a bad loss early in the season, which is huge for Oregon.

Simply put, if Oregon gets to Las Vegas at 11-1 overall and 9-0 in conference play, the Ducks are making the playoff with a Pac-12 Championship victory. The league has been as strong as it has been in years. You cannot ding the Ducks too badly for having the courage to go to Atlanta and play Dan Lanning’s former team in his first game on the job. They could get like a top-three seed.

Alabama being eliminated, the ACC in life support and the Dawgs being undefeated helps Oregon.
