The Green Bay Packers will need to improve their roster this offseason. Here are three potential draft picks they should begin to eye.

2022 has not gone as planned for the Green Bay Packers. After trading Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason, their offense has struggled to consistently put points on the board. The Packers are 27th in the NFL in points per game (17.1).

Behind their offensive woes, the Packers have limped out to a disappointing 3-6 start. They are also in the midst of their first five-game losing streak since 2008. It’s clear that the front office will need to make some big moves this offseason.

However, they are projected to have -$2 million in cap space per Spotrac, so the NFL Draft will be their best avenue to bolster the roster. According to NFL.com, the Packers currently hold the eighth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Let’s take a look at three draft prospects that the Packers should begin to target already.

3. TE Michael Mayer, Notre Dame

Mayer is not a wide receiver, but he would give the Packers a much-needed pass catcher. At Notre Dame, Mayer has put some impressive numbers. He holds the following school records:

  • Most all-time receptions by a tight end (164)
  • Most all-time touchdowns by a tight end (16)
  • Most receptions in a single season by a tight end (71)
  • Most receiving yards in a single season by a tight end (840)
  • Most receptions in a single game by a tight end (11)

To make matters more impressive, he is still in the middle of his junior season.

On a national scale, he has been equally impressive. He has an outstanding 90.6 PFF grade. Entering last week, he had 10 catches of 20+ yards, which led all Power 5 tight ends, per PFF.

Mayer should make an immediate impact in the NFL. The Packers could utilize Mayer and Robert Tonyan together in two-tight end sets.
