Mike McCarthy returned to Green Bay wearing a long coat like Vince Lombardi wore on sidelines ahead of the Dallas Cowboys’ game against the Packers.
On Sunday, Mike McCarthy made his return to Green Bay for the first time since the Packers fired him in the middle of the 2018 season. He is in his third year as the sideline boss for the Dallas Cowboys, with the team holding a 6-2 record returning from their bye week.
McCarthy arrived to Lambeau Field wearing a camel overcoat similar to what legendary Packers head coach Vince Lombardi used to wear. The footage went viral after ESPN’s Ed Werder tweeted it out.

That caught the attention of many who saw the clip, including FOX Sports’ Skip Bayless.
Mike McCarthy catches attention of Twitter after he seemingly channeled Vince Lombardi
Wait, did Mike McCarthy really try to dress like Vince Lombardi in his return to Green Bay??? Or was that just a coincidence? I sure hope the latter.

Anyone upset about Mike McCarthy dressing like Vince Lombardi today just doesn't get it...

It's about love. It's about respect. It's about how much Green Bay Wisconsin & Lambeau Field mean to football, & about what they mean to him.
It's called paying homage.
I totally get it.

McCarthy was overcome with emotion earlier in the week when talking about returning to Green Bay when speaking with the media, citing that his children were raised there and born there. Aaron Rodgers expressed hope that McCarthy would receive a warm reception by fans at Lambeau Field.
The Cowboys were seemingly in good position to win the game in the second half, as they took a 28-14 lead, despite their turnover issues in the first half. But then, Rodgers showed off his connection with rookie wide receiver Christian Watson, scoring touchdowns on two consecutive drives in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Those were two of Watson’s three touchdowns of the game.
In overtime, the Cowboys worked their way to Green Bay’s own 35-yard line but faced a fourth-and-three. McCarthy opted against going for the field and instead chose to go for the first-down. That was unsuccessful, as the Packers defense rushed quarterback Dak Prescott, who threw an incomplete pass intended for running back Tony Pollard.
The Packers responded on the following drive behind a 36-yard reception by Allen Lazard, and it led to Mason Crosby’s game-winning, 28-yard field goal.
McCarthy’s entrance and exit from Lambeau Field were both talked about extensively on social media, as the Cowboys now drop to third-place in the NFC East after their loss to the Packers.
