Patrick Mahomes can do things that are otherworldly on the football field, but he believes AFC West rival Justin Herbert is capable of just the same.

Though it’s been a tough season for Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers — largely due to an inordinate number of injuries — the Sunday Night Football matchup between him and Patrick Mahomes as the Kansas City Chiefs travel to SoFi Stadium in Week 11 is one that we’ll be watching for the next decade.

There is no doubt that Mahomes and Herbert are two of the young elites at their position and could be argued as the future of quarterbacks in the NFL. So anytime that they go head-to-head, it’s definitely a must-see moment.

But these are two AFC West rivals, so it’s not often that you see a lot of loved being shared between these two teams. When it comes to the signal-callers, however, there is a ton of respect, which Mahomes put on display on Tuesday.

Patrick Mahomes heaps praise on Justin Herbert ahead of Chiefs-Chargers

When talking about Herbert, Mahomes didn’t stop short of heaping a ton of praise on the Chargers quarterback, saying, “Justin Herbert is a special talent, he throws passes I don’t think anyone else can throw in this league including me.”

Considering that this is the guy that we’ve seen throw one no-look pass after another, make throws with his off hand, and do countless other crazy things at the quarterback position, for him to say that about Herbert speaks volumes of the talent that he thinks his rival has.

Unfortunately, we haven’t seen all of that talent on display from Herbert every week this season. With injuries to Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Rashawn Slater, and several other key offensive pieces, the Chargers offense has been out of sorts, including their star signal-caller.

But with Allen potentially returning on Sunday night, let’s hope that means we’re about to be treated to a lot of those unreal throws in primetime from both of these quarterbacks.
