New York Yankees executive Brian Cashman was photographed sleeping outside, and it was a highly respectable move for a great cause.
While many residents of the northeast tend to stray away from the outdoors in the colder months, New York Yankees executive Brian Cashman did the “polar” opposite (no pun intended). Cashman was photographed sleeping in the streets of New York City on Thursday with just a pillow and a sleeping bag.
He did so in an effort to raise awareness and funds for youth homelessness, an admirable and selfless action for such a major issue.

The temperature was in the high-30s, just above freezing, and Cashman slept on the cold concrete in less-than-favorable conditions. However, this isn’t the first time he’s done so. He participates annually in the Covenant House Sleep Out, experiencing just one night of what some people sadly experience every day.
Cashman spoke out on his experience, sharing with Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, “It’s been a real difference-maker. A night like tonight, it’s a chance to hear from some of the success stories, who share what they’ve been through and where they are now. You’re just blown away by how amazingly gifted they are. All they needed was a chance to succeed and have a real life.”
He’s participated in the movement since the beginning, and he will certainly inspire others to join.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman is using his platform in great ways
All too often, high-profile public figures use their platform in ways that get them in trouble. Cashman, on the other hand, is using his to spread awareness and help out those in need when he can.
His impact has brought the Sleep Out to Yankee Stadium with several executives and other high-profile people involved. He’s certainly making a difference, and the popularity of the event will hopefully continue to grow as he helps combat youth homelessness.
