Justin Jefferson gives Cowboys the perfect bulletin-board material
By Mark Powell
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is a confident man — and he should be. Jefferson guaranteed a win over the Cowboys this week.
Justin Jefferson has earned the right to be confident against just about every NFL team but the Dallas Cowboys. Last season, Dallas held Jefferson to one of his worst regular-season performances of his brief NFL career.
Jefferson expects things to go differently this time around.
“Having a loss for two years straight against them, we definitely have that in the back of our minds and we definitely gonna go get this win,” Jefferson said.
As far as guarantees go, that one was pretty defiant. The Cowboys have defeated the Vikings on the road in back-to-back appearances, despite having Andy Dalton and Cooper Rush starting at QB in those games, respectively.
Vikings: Justin Jefferson guarantees win over Cowboys
Justin Jefferson will face off against one of the best cornerbacks in all of football on Sunday — Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs. Not only is Diggs one of the best cover corners in the game, he’s also a turnover threat just about every time he’s targeted by the opposing offense.
Jefferson is coming off back-to-back impressive displays, including a 10-catch, 193-yard performance in a win over the Buffalo Bills last week.
Dallas doesn’t often have Diggs travel with wide receivers when they move across the formation, so expect the Vikings to try and shield Kirk Cousins’ favorite target by lining him up in the slot, and on the opposite side of the formation from Diggs. They much prefer a matchup of Jefferson against, say, Jourdan Lewis.
As talented as Jefferson is, the Cowboys are likely just as concerned with the Vikings rushing attack. Dallas has struggled in its run defense of late, leading Micah Parsons to call their effort “disgusting” just last week in a loss to the Packers.
