Heisman Trophy Power Rankings: Caleb Williams seizes his Heisman moment
By Scott Rogust
North Carolina freshman quarterback Drake Maye has been one of the most exciting quarterbacks to watch this season. In his first year, Maye is statistically one of the top signal callers in the game. He also helped lead the Tar Heels to the ACC Championship Game for the first time since 2015.
Maye had the chance to further increase his numbers against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Instead, Maye had his worst game of the season, and it led to the team’s second loss of the season.
On Saturday, Maye failed to throw or run for a touchdown in a game for the first time this season. Not to mention that his 202 passing yards were his lowest in a game this campaign. Maye completed 16-of-30 and threw an interception in the 21-17 loss.
Maye has the chance to bounce back next week against the North Carolina State Wolfpack ahead of their ACC Title Game against the Clemson Tigers.
With Drake Maye’s poor showing, Bo Nix rises up a spot in the power rankings.
Yes, the Oregon Ducks may have suffered their second loss of the season last week to Washington and ended their College Football Playoff hopes, but Nix and the Ducks were able to increase their odds of making the Pac-12 Title Game with their win over the Utah Utes on Saturday night. Nix played a huge role in that.
With under two minutes remaining, Nix got the Utes to burn all of their timeouts, and on third-and-one ran up the middle for a two-yard gain to officially clinch the victory for the Ducks.
Nix completed 25-of-37 pass attempts for 287 yards and one touchdown, while throwing one interception.
On the year, Nix has thrown for 3,062 yards, 25 touchdowns, and six interceptions, while running for 513 yards and 14 touchdowns on 80 carries.
Nix and Oregon have the chance to clinch a Pac-12 Title Game berth next week if they’re able to defeat the Oregon State Beavers. If not, they would need Washington State to beat Washington.
