With the New England Patriots game at Foxboro pushed back slightly due to “technical difficulties”, New York Jets fans find it all too convenient.

If the New York Jets are going to break their losing streak against the New England Patriots, this year is their year to do it. After all, it’s been seven years since it last happened, 12 years since it last happened in Foxboro, and 14 years since it last happened in Foxboro during the regular season.

It’s time to “exorcize the final demon,” as The Jet Press so eloquently put it.

Jets fans have been eagerly awaiting this day, a day that’s brightened by the fact that they are right behind the Miami Dolphins in the contentious AFC East title race. A win over the Patriots isn’t just symbolic: it just might help the Jets in their push to claim the division title.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a true Jets-Patriots game without stoking this fierce rivalry even more. The only thing that could rain on the Jets parade was a not-so-subtle reference to the Patriots’ past. As it turns out, Foxboro was experiencing some “technical difficulties”, a term that so prominently features quotation marks that it seems everyone is suspicious of its meaning.

For anyone wanting further clarity, the fans not loving the announcement translates to loud boos from the Jets contingent in Gillette Stadium.

Former WEEI Patriots writer Ryan Hannable noted that he’s “never seen this before” in regards to the delayed broadcast. Neither has The MMQB’s Albert Breer.

Jets fans took to Twitter to express their feigned surprise that there would be mysterious “technical difficulties” at Foxboro.

Jets fans not surprised by experiencing “technical difficulties” at Foxboro

The last thing the Patriots will ever need is another video scandal — or another video scandal — but as it turns out, the television broadcast has made it abundantly clear that there actually are some tangible technical difficulties. NFL fans at home can still see the game, but it’s only from one camera angle, a situation that the NFL likely isn’t too thrilled to see.

Some NFL fans don’t see the evident “technical difficulties” as a bad thing.

What’s more, CBS accidentally made the “technical difficulties” situation a bit worse by queuing up the wrong theme song.

While fans of the game do enjoy being able to watch plays fully develop, which is a challenge with typical NFL broadcasts, the close-ups in today’s Sunday productions are akin to that of a feature film — something that’s appealing for casual Sunday fans.

In this case, the technical difficulties may end up being a good thing for Patriots and Jets fans who don’t want to miss a second of the action. But for Jets fans wishing to see a fortuitous win at Foxboro, they may not get all the glorious camera angles they’d like.
