World Cup fans start epic chant calling out lack of beer in Qatar. 

The World Cup is off to a raging success (insert sarcastic font here).

Within minutes of the first game fans were already calling the game rigged due to a bad call three minutes after the opening bell. Then, it seemed, fans weren’t showing up for the event with many open seats seen in ariel views of the field.

But at least this next one, we can relate to.

World Cup: What does queremos cerveza mean?

On Sunday the Equadorian fans who were there started a chant “Queremos cerveza” which basically means, “We want beer.”

The reason for the chant is because … there’s no beer.

The ban was announced just two days ahead of the event.

FIFA said in a statement that the ban would “the stadiums and surrounding areas provide an enjoyable, respectful and pleasant experience for all fans.”

Qatar is a mainly Muslim country and has strict laws regarding alcohol.

This seems to also have come as a surprise to Budweiser who, according to NPR, “paid tens of millions of dollars for the right to be the official alcohol sponsor at World Cup events.”

They appeared to take it in stride though.

“Well, this is awkward,” Budweiser wrote in a tweet that was quickly deleted. They then shared a photo of the cases of beer that were set to be sold in Qatar and wrote, “New Day, New Tweet. Winning Country gets the Buds. Who will get them?”
