The USMNT scored their first World Cup goal in eight years, thanks to a beautiful pass from Christian Pulisic to Tim Weah vs Wales.
Despite some early frustration with the officiating crew, the United States was able to notch an early 1-0 lead over Wales, scoring their first World Cup goal in eight years in the process.
The U.S. statistically dominated the first half, and an early advantage shows just that. It was Tim Weah who notched the tally, thanks in part to a fantastic run forward from Christian Pulisic, who had been hauled to the turf just minutes earlier.

I’m not the most patriotic person, but it’s tough not to feel a sense of pride in that achievement.
Tim Weah gives USMNT early World Cup lead
Tim Weah is a second-generation soccer player, as his father also played a critical role in growing the game internationally, and won the Ballon d’Or. This iteration of the United States squad in its youngest in World Cup history, and by far the youngest in this team’s tournament.
The U.S. entered group stage play on Monday with high expectations, in part due to its label as the most talented United States team in recent history. The majority of the squad plays at a high level in Europe.
Weah, for one, is no exception. The 22-year-old plays for Ligue 1 club Lille.
There was some concern entering the tournament as to the finishing ability of the USMNT. Without a legitimate striker, can the United State consistently get on the end of promising opportunities?
Weah’s goal was an emphatic response to those who doubted this squad, and makes Gregg Berhalter look good in the process.
