2022 NFL power rankings, Week 12: Eagles rally, Jets stunned
There was an electric moment in Foxborough, the end of a seven-game winning streak in Minnesota and overtime heroics by the Silver and Black.
It is Thanksgiving week and it’s always a good time to be home for the holidays. But it wasn’t a good week for NFL teams hosting games this past Thursday, Sunday and Monday. The host clubs were a combined 5-9.
This coming week, all 32 teams will be in action. And there’s a Turkey Day tripleheader featuring five clubs with winning records and a Lions’ squad on a three-game winning streak. How did Week 11 affect the NFL Power Rankings?
Lovie Smith’s team has played tough this season but it’s resulted in just one win. And the Texans were once again on the short end on Sunday against the surging Commanders. It was a long day for quarterback Davis Mills and the Houston offense.
The second-year pro threw two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, and was sacked five times. The Texans gained only 21 yards rushing on 16 carries and finished the game with 148 total yards.
Under new head coach Doug Pederson, the Jaguars have already won as many games this season as they did in 2021. But it is worth noting that the club is 1-6 in its last seven contests after a 2-1 start.
Second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence has thrown for 13 scores and run for each other. But he’s committed 11 of the team’s 13 turnovers. Running back Travis Etienne has been solid and the Jaguars have learned how to force turnovers (14).
The Panthers had a little extra time to pay for their clash in Baltimore. And quarterback Baker Mayfield was back at the helm for Steve Wilks’ club. But Carolina was limited to just 205 total yards and a field goal.
The defenses showed up in a big way and the teams were tied 3-3 after three quarters. But the club committed three turnovers in the final quarter – including two Mayfield interceptions. The Panthers are alone in last place in the NFC South.
Sean McVay’s team took a three-game losing streak into its matchup with the equally-disappointing Saints. And it wound up being another rough afternoon for the reigning Super Bowl champions in many ways.
Veteran Matthew Stafford threw for 159 yards and two TDs but wound up leaving the game (concussion). Enter Bryce Perkins, who was sacked three times and threw for only 64 yards. The Rams were limited to two field goals in the second half.
