Watch Browns field get torn up by unknown fan on joyride

The football field of FirstEnergy Stadium, home of the Cleveland Browns, was torn up due to someone allegedly breaking into the stadium and going for a joyride.

The Cleveland Browns have had a rough season, 3-7 on the year entering Week 11. While they are looking to get their fourth win of the season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Browns had to do some repairs at their home stadium.

On Tuesday morning, it was discovered that there were deep tire treads across the field at FirstEnergy Stadium. According to the Cleveland Police Department, via News 5 Cleveland, a person may have jumped the stadium fence and gone on a joyride with a golf cart that was located inside the venue. Then, the person did some donuts with the vehicle, leaving the spiral tread marks across the field.

Browns: FirstEnergy Stadium field damaged after individual goes on joyride

The Browns released a statement regarding the incident, via News 5 Cleveland, where they expressed confidence that the grounds crew will be able to repair the field before their game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

“We are aware of the incident that occurred early Tuesday morning at FirstEnergy Stadium and have provided the Cleveland Division of Police with all relevant information,” read the statement. “Based on our internal evaluation, there was some superficial damage to the playing field that our grounds maintenance team is currently working to repair. We take great pride in the strong reviews and reputation of our stadium’s playing surface, have been in touch with the NFL on the matter and are confident after repair our field will be ready for Sunday’s game vs. the Tampa Buccaneers.”

There has been no update regarding whether police have identified a suspect.

The Browns are currently on a two-game losing streak, falling to the Miami Dolphins 39-17 in Week 10 and the Buffalo Bills 31-23 in Detroit.  Now, they are set to face a Buccaneers team that is returning from the bye week. Tampa Bay won their previous two games against the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks to get back to .500 on the season.

While the game is still scheduled to take place, it remains to be seen how quickly the damage to the football field can be fixed before kickoff on Sunday.
