New York Yankees rumors: Bring David Robertson home
The Aroldis Chapman era in New York has come to a close. It seems like only yesterday he was excelling in the Yankees bullpen backed by fellow reliever Dellin Betances and David Robertson. Their careers have gone in completely different directions. Betances has already retired. Robertson, who missed significant time due to injuries, is back and looking like a nice acquisition this offseason.
Robertson split his time with the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies last year. Overall, he was 4-3 with a 2.40 ERA. He saved 20 games, 14 of which came as the closer of the Cubs. The Phillies mixed him into their closer-by-committee plans. The Yankees, with some doubts about Clay Holmes, could do something similar.
The Yankees have lost some key relievers to free agency this offseason. Robertson won’t give them any long-term solutions. He’s already 37.
We already know Robertson can perform in New York. It’s a concern many fans will have for players coming from smaller market teams.
Robertson knows a thing or two about helping this team go the distance. He was a member of the 2009 squad, the last time the team made it to the World Series. They won it all that year. For more than just nostalgia, they should be looking for a reunion.
