3 NFL quarterbacks who played like they should be benched in Week 12: Trevor Siemian, Bears

The Chicago Bears’ odds of winning in Week 12 were significantly hindered when it was determined that quarterback Justin Fields was dealing with a dislocated left shoulder. That meant Trevor Siemian got the start by default.

On Sunday, there was a scare that Siemian wouldn’t start after suffering an oblique injury during pregame warmups. Reports indicated that Nathan Peterman would start in his place, which no doubt terrified Bears fans. But just before kickoff, the team named Siemian the starter.

While Siemian led the team to 10 points on his first two drives of the game, the Bears offense stalled out, as they went three-and-out on their next two drives and kneeled down on their final drive to end the first half.

There wasn’t much success in the second half, as they punted on three of their final five drives. A 13-play drive ended on a fourth-and-5  situation, where a Siemian threw an incomplete pass to wide receiver Chase Claypool. Then, to essentially certify the win for the Jets, Siemian threw an interception to linebacker C.J. Moseley when trying to target tight end Cole Kmet.

On the day, Siemian recorded 179 receiving yards, one touchdown, and one interception while completing 14-of-25 pass attempts.

Not the greatest of showing for Siemian, but it’s entirely possible that he starts in Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers if the Bears want to take it easy with Fields’ shoulder injury.
