Sami Zayn story shines at WWE Survivor Series WarGames
By Scott Rogust
Sami Zayn’s story with the Bloodline was already great, but it reached new heights at WWE Survivor Series WarGames.
Roman Reigns is the focal point of WWE television, as he is the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion since Aug. 2020, after all. He formed The Bloodline stable alongside his cousins, Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, and Solo Sikoa. But adding Sami Zayn to the mix added much more intrigue to the story, and only improved upon it.
Zayn was the outsider trying to help Reigns and the Usos, even wearing their Bloodline t-shirt to show his unity. This infuriated Jey Uso, who wanted nothing to do with Zayn. Then, Reigns dubbed Zayn an “Honorary Uce,” giving him his own shirt and a spot in the stable, much to the chagrin of Jey.
Finally, after months of bickering and in-fighting, Zayn won Jey over by helping the Bloodline defeat Team Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Ridge Holland, Butch, Drew McIntyre, and Kevin Owens) in the WarGames match at WWE Survivor Series on Saturday. He did so at the expense of his former friend in Owens.
Sami Zayn shines at WWE Survivor Series WarGames, shows loyalty to the Bloodline
In the lead-up to the WarGames match, Owens was officially revealed as the final member of the Brawling Brutes team. On the Nov. 25 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Owens warned Zayn of what could become of him if he remained in the Bloodline. As in, Zayn getting kicked out. They had this conversation outside of the Bloodline’s locker room door, where Jey just so happened to be listening. As Jey confronted Zayn and asked him if he talked to anyone, the reply was “no.”
Later that night, Zayn tried to help the Uso’s in their match against Sheamus and McIntyre, with the winner earning the advantage for their team in the WarGames match at Survivor Series. Zayn tried to hand Jey one of the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship titles, but he was thwarted by Owens. Zayn was thrown into the ring and ejected by the referee, who was too distracted to see Owens hit Jey with a stunner, allowing Sheamus to hit the Brogue Kick to get the win.
At the event, Jey approached Reigns and told him about Zayn lying to him. Reigns said he would look him in the eyes and determine if he was lying. Zayn was called in, and admitted to Reigns that he did speak to Owens and outlined the conversation. He said he lied to Jey because he didn’t want to distract him from the aforementioned match. That was when he and Reigns hugged it out.
In the main event, Jey started off the match against Butch, who then received help from Ridge Holland who entered the match by way of their team holding the advantage. As the clock ticked to zero, Jimmy Uso tried to enter the match but was stopped by Reigns, who made Zayn enter to work out their differences.
Later on with every competitor entering the match, Jey accidentally hit Zayn with a superkick, who didn’t exactly show much remorse for the mistake. But as Owens threatened to pin Reigns to win the match, Zayn prevented the referee from making the three count. As the two friends argued, Jimmy attempted to hit a superkick but was blocked by Owens. That was when Zayn struck with a low blow to Owens and followed it up with a Helluva kick. He then allowed Jey to hit a top rope splash on Owens to get the pin.
As the Bloodline stood in victory, Jey, who took issue with Zayn over the months, embraced him with a hug.
Sami has been the highlight of WWE television, and he shined in the main event of one of the company’s top premium live events of the year. His spot in the Bloodline is now seemingly rock-solid after helping lead the team to victory.
