2. Jordan Love flashes but is inconsistent, putting Packers in purgatory for 2023

Perhaps the most likely outcome if Aaron Rodgers is shut down and Jordan Love takes over for the final five games of the 2022 regular season isn’t that he looks like a star but, rather, that he is a bit of a rollercoaster. There could well be the highs like we saw on Sunday night in the comeback attempt but there will just as likely be lows.

It’s hard not to see this as the most plausible outcome given Love’s situation. He was drafted out of Utah State for his physical tools but with a ton of development needed for him to be a high-level starting NFL quarterback. And while he’s had a plethora of coaching now, the one thing he’s definitely short on is game action. For an unpolished product, that’s going to breed inconsistent results when he does see the field.

Unfortunately for Packers fans, the most likely outcome is also the most frustrating for the long-term outlook of the franchise.

Should Love come and show those ups and downs, the reality of the NFL is that Green Bay is going to be in a position where they likely roll the dice with Love for the 2023 season and possibly also trade Rodgers. But where that leaves the team is also with no quality outlook if Love proves to not be the guy next year, which would ultimately just delay the franchise reset at quarterback that would need to happen eventually.
