The St. Louis Cardinals are a third National League team looking for a shortstop, possibly ready to sign Dansby Swanson away from the Braves. This is a team built to make a deep run in 2023. Their infield already has the 2022 MVP and the third-place finisher. The roster is full of Gold Gloves and impressive bats. Shortstop is one position they would like to improve.

How would Swanson end up with the Cardinals? St. Louis can play dirty and spoil the Cubs’ shot at signing him. They’re already a landing spot for Willson Contreras. Convincing him to turn on the Cubs and head to St. Louis might be a little tougher than signing away a player from Atlanta.

The Braves won’t fight against the Cardinals for anything more than possibly a wild card spot or home field advantage in a playoff series. Considering the state of the National League East and National League Central, the Braves have a much tougher road ahead of defending their title than the Cardinals do.

These two contenders might have very little contention to each other in the regular season. However, the Cardinals are pretty much the Braves of the National League Central. They contend often.

Swanson has already won a ring with the Braves. It won’t make it hurt any less to see him do it on a Cardinals team that could easily end up eliminating Atlanta from the postseason.
