5 players who could sign at the 2022 MLB Winter Meetings
By Kevin Henry
As the countdown begins to the start of the 2022 MLB Winter Meetings in San Diego, it’s a chance to look ahead at which players could sign deals during what will be a busy week.
The annual MLB Winter Meetings is always a gathering place for MLB managers, executives, and agents (as well as members of the media), and the Hot Stove usually ignites during the festivities, slated this year for December 4-7.
So what players could find new homes during the MLB Winter Meetings? Let’s look at five possibilities.
MLB Winter Meetings: Cody Bellinger
Let’s start with one of the more interesting free agents out there, former National League MVP Cody Bellinger, who was non-tendered by the Los Angeles Dodgers after his third consecutive disappointing season since earning the MVP award in 2019.
The 27-year-old Bellinger is reportedly looking for a one-year deal to prove that he can still perform at a high level, and there are plenty of teams who are itching to give him the chance. From the San Francisco Giants to the Houston Astros to the Toronto Blue Jays, plenty of teams who could contend for a deep postseason run in 2023 are vying for Bellinger’s services. He very well could find his new home before the Winter Meetings conclude in San Diego, giving one MLB general manager plenty of good vibes heading into the holidays.
Will a National League team sign Bellinger in the hopes that he can prove to be a difference-maker against the Dodgers in the chase for the World Series? It’s one of the storylines to watch from San Diego.
