Aaron Rodgers injury update sure sounds like he’s forcing it

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers just hasn’t caught a break this season, and he may be forcing it by playing through injury.
Packers veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers faced a thumb injury in the Week 5 matchup in London against the New York Giants, and as the season continues, details of his injury seem to get worse and worse.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Rodgers isn’t practicing with the team today due to rib and thumb injuries, but he’s expected to play on Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
He hasn’t taken proper time off since his thumb injury in Week 5. He was diagnosed with an avulsion fracture. He’s played every single matchup so far as he has avoided the injured reserve, but it may not be what’s best for him.
Rodgers is on track to have a down season by his standards, with 254 completions for a completion percentage of 64.8, 2,682 yards for an average of 6.8 yards per pass and 21 touchdowns so far.
According to Max Weisman of the New York Post, he seems to undermine just how serious the injury is. He reportedly stated, “I think I’ve had worse injuries I’ve played with. There would be a couple plays every game, maybe a snap slightly inside or a hit that might jolt it a little bit. Just dealing with the occasional kind of dull pain and working through it.”
However, his injury could require surgery.
Packers: Aaron Rodgers’ injury could require surgery
It’s understandable that Rodgers doesn’t want to leave his team behind while he feels like he can play, especially as the veteran of the team. However, playing through the pain could only complicate things further down the line.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network shared, “[His injury] is serious enough that surgery is almost always the answer to fix this type of injury, according to people with knowledge of Rodgers’ fracture.”
Rodgers is downplaying his injury a lot, and it seems to be a lot worse than what he’s letting on.
