Dansby Swanson’s contract dilemma eerily similar to Freddie Freeman’s

The Atlanta Braves seem to be in a similar situation as last offseason with another star on the market expected to get a six-year contract.
The Atlanta Braves lost one of their biggest stars, Freddie Freeman, last season to free agency. Freeman signed a six-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers worth $162 million, and Dansby Swanson seems to be following down an eerily similar path.
According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Swanson is seeking to land a deal of at least six years as well. Swanson isn’t as impactful as Freeman was at bat, but he’s one of four big shortstops on the market and teams are expected to fight hard to land him.
Defensively, he’s a great player and one that any team could benefit from. It’ll certainly be a noticeable loss if the Braves fail to lock down Swanson, but there is hope that it wouldn’t hinder the team’s success too much.
Dansby Swanson’s absence from the Braves would be noticeable
Freeman’s absence from the Braves was a massive one to face, but they ultimately made it work as they clinched the NL East and earned a playoff spot this season without him.
Atlanta replaced Freeman with Matt Olson, and they’ll likely stay internal with Swanson’s replacement and put Vaughn Grissom at shortstop. Grissom won’t be as dependable as Swanson was defensively, but he has a lot of potential and has many years in his prime as he’s just 21 years old.
The Braves have been particularly good at roster construction over the past few years, and while Swanson’s absence will certainly be a sad one, there’s trust that they’ll know how to maneuver around it.
Swanson and Freeman, however, seem to be going out of Atlanta the exact same way.
