The USMNT have advanced out of the group stage of the World Cup, but Mexico wonโt be joining them.
On Tuesday, the United States Menโs National Team advanced to the Round of 16 following their 1-0 win over Iran in Group B action. They were able to do so after a goal from star Christian Pulisic. This is the first time that the USMNT made it out of the group stage since 2014 after they failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2018.
There was more reason for USMNT fans to cheer one day later, as they watched Mexico fail to make it out of the group stage on Wednesday. Despite beating Saudi Arabia 2-1, they just missed out on qualifying due to goal differential.
Letโs just say that USMNT fans showed no mercy and took great joy in watching Mexico fail to make it out of the group stage for the first time since 1978.

Did Mexico get eliminated from the World Cup?
There was a glimmer of hope for Mexico late in the game. After making it to halftime scoreless, Mexico responded in a huge way, as they took a quick 2-0 lead on goals from Henry Martin in the 47th-minute and Luis Chavez on a free kick in the 52nd minute. All they needed was one more goal to have a chance to make it out of the group stage.
It appeared as though Uriel Antuna had notched the critical third goal of the game in the 86th minute. However, officials determined that he was offside, thus negating the score.

In extra time, Saudi Arabia was able to score on a goal fromย Salem Al Dawsari.
With this result, Poland was able to make it out to the knockout stage by one goal. Poland advanced out of Group C alongside Argentina, who beat them 2-0 on Wednesday.
Mexico is leaving the World Cup, while the United States takes on Netherlands on Saturday, Dec. 3.
