The USMNT takes on the Netherlands Saturday in the round of 16 at the World Cup in another must-win match for the Americans.
With the group stage behind them, the Americans will be looking to make history. A win and they would reach the quarterfinals, a feat a U.S. team last accomplished at the 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan.
The Americans reached the knockout stage after finishing second in Group B. A 1-0 win against Iran on Tuesday following a Christian Pulisic goal put the Americans through. It was Pulisic’s first career World Cup goal.
Although Pulisic injured his pelvis on the play, he is expected to recover in time for the Netherlands match.
The Americans, thanks to players like midfielder Tyler Adams, have showed the world they can field a competitive team that isn’t afraid to attack.
The Oranje, meanwhile, topped Group A following Tuesday’s 2-0 victory against hosts Qatar. Budding striker Cody Gakpo scored in that match, bringing his tournament tally to three goals.
