Heisman Trophy Power Rankings: Max Duggan punches his ticket to NYC
By Scott Rogust
The Oregon Ducks weren’t playing on Conference Championship weekend, due in part to their 9-3 record on the season. While they weren’t able to close out the season the way they had envisioned, you can’t look over the job that quarterback Bo Nix had this season.
In his first season away from Auburn, Nix put up legitimate Heisman numbers wearing a Ducks uniform. In 12 games, Nix completed 71.5-percent of his passes for 3,389 yards and 27 touchdowns, while throwing six interceptions. As a runner, Nix picked up 504 yards and 14 touchdowns on 84 carries.
It was a great turnaround season for Nix in the Pac-12.
Speaking of the Pac-12, there was one quarterback who is statistically the best in the nation. That is Washington Huskies signal caller Michael Penix Jr., who transferred over from Indiana.
The southpaw quarterback had some unreal performances throughout the season, such as his 408 yard game against Oregon on Nov. 12 and his five total touchdowns against Washington State in the regular-season finale to win the Apple Cup.
Through 12 games, Penix led all of college football with 4,354 passing yards, while throwing 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Much like Nix, Penix played great football in his first year in a wild Pac-12 conference. He did, after all, lead the entire nation in passing yards.
