Bruce Bochy reveals biggest takeaway from Rangers meeting with Jacob deGrom
By Rylie Smith
The Texas Rangers recently signed ace Jacob deGrom to a five-year deal worth $185 million, and Bruce Bochy revealed details on the meeting.
Jacob deGrom is certainly a team player when he’s healthy, and that’s one of the many highlights Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy shared from the meeting.
The Rangers are looking to become a winning team, and deGrom seemed to be fond of that fact. He’s a great player, truly one of the best pitchers in the league, and he’ll definitely help bring success to Texas.
Though he’s prone to facing injuries, he doesn’t let that stop him. This season, in particular, showed just how dominant he is as he missed over a year of playing time and then came back to produce an ERA of 3.08, batting average against of .175 and WHIP of 0.75. He quickly became one of the best pitchers on the team, even though he didn’t make his season debut until August.
These are the exact qualities the Rangers need in their rotation, and they’re very likely to have a much-improved roster next season.
Jacob deGrom will undoubtedly help the Rangers rotation
The Rangers didn’t have the worst rotation in the league, but they had far from the best. Among all teams, they had the ninth-worst ERA (4.22), 14th-worst opponent batting average (.247) and seventh-worst WHIP (1.34).
deGrom, if he begins the season in full health, will instantly make a noticeable impact. While they’re not likely to be contenders in winning the division considering they’re up against the Houston Astros, they are much more likely to have more success than usual.
The Rangers still have a lot of development to go through in order to be competitive with the Astros, but they’re off to a beautiful start by landing deGrom. Hopefully they’ll continue to make big splashes this offseason and for more seasons to come.
