2022 NFL power rankings, Week 14: 49ers roll, Colts flop
The offensive disaster that has been the 2022 Broncos was once again on full display, this time at Baltimore. Nathaniel Hackett’s team was limited to three Brandon McManus field goals and a total of 272 yards of total offense.
Denver was a dismal 2-of-12 on third down and the team’s defensive unit deserved a better fate, but Hackett’s team gave up a 16-play, 91-yard touchdown drive with under five minutes to play in this latest loss.
Off a comeback win over the Ravens, the Jaguars were in the Motor City for an interconference encounter with the Lions. Doug Pederson’s club found itself down 14-3 after 15 minutes of play and 30-6 in the third quarter.
The club finally reached the end zone for the only time on the afternoon thanks to a Trevor Lawrence TD toss to tight end Evan Engram. Pederson’s defense allowed 437 yards and failed to come up with a takeaway in the lopsided loss.
It’s been another rough year for a team that has not posted a winning season since reaching the playoffs in 2017. Steve Wilks replaced head coach Matt Rhule after the Panthers opened the year with a 1-4 mark. The Panthers are 3-4 in their last seven games.
The team has gone through three different starting quarterbacks this season and Sam Darnold has the job for now. On Monday, Baker Mayfield asked for his release and the Panthers obliged.
It has been a highly disappointing season for a club that has unfortunately picked up where it left off a year ago. Including last season’s lopsided playoff loss to the Rams, the Cardinals are 8-15 in their last 23 outings after starting 7-0 in 2021.
Quarterback Kyler Murray has been erratic while Arizona’s defensive unit has given up 37 touchdowns in 12 games. Veteran defensive end J.J. Watt has been a bright spot – leading the team with 6.5 sacks.
