A new lawsuit filed against the University of Vermont for Title IX violations includes an accusation of rape against Anthony Lamb of the Golden State Warriors.

A recent lawsuit filed U.S. District Court in Burlington accuses the University of Vermont of Title IX violations related to the school’s handling of a rape accusation against basketball player Anthony Lamb in 2019.

According to Seven Days, an independent newspaper in Burlington, Vermont, the lawsuit includes: “allegations that athletic director Jeff Schulman and other employees “steered” Lamb’s accuser, away from filing a formal complaint under the university’s Title IX procedures and misled her about the available remedies, as well as the potential consequences for Lamb.”

Lamb, who played for UVM from 2016 to 2020 went undrafted and has since spent time with the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and now the Golden State Warriors. It is not clear if the police were ever involved and Lamb never faced criminal charges. He is also not named as a defendant in the lawsuit, the allegation is the foundation of the plaintiff’s accusations against the school.

Did the Warriors know about rape accusations against Anthony Lamb?

The Warriors have said they were aware of the accusations against Lamb when they signed him. Speaking with reporters at the time, general manager Bob Myers said: “We can only, at times, look at what the law has done and follow the leadership of the NBA. If the NBA had said, ‘This is not something we would recommend or do,’ or, ‘There’s an ongoing investigation,’ we would not have moved forward.”

Seven Days has additional details [Trigger Warning] about the accusations against Lamb and the aftermath of the school’s Title IX investigation. Two other plaintiffs have also joined the lawsuit, alleging Title IX violations by the school after separate incidents of sexual assault, unrelated to the accusations against Lamb.
