The Kadarius Toney trade isn’t paying off with the WR out again this week, the Chiefs should get in on the Odell Beckham Jr. sweepstakes.

A few weeks ago, the Chiefs made a move to acquire Giants wide receiver Kadarius Toney in hopes of adding another playmaker to Patrick Mahomes’ receiving corps.

The trade, which seemed like a good idea at the time, hasn’t exactly yielded results Kansas City needs. Toney caught a touchdown against the Jaguars in his second game with the team but he injured his hamstring the next week and has been out since.

Now, Toney has been ruled out for KC’s tilt with the Broncos on Sunday, set to miss his third game in a row.

According to Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs are hopeful of getting Toney back healthy next week. That doesn’t change the equation all that much: If Toney can’t be depended on fully, maybe Odell Beckham Jr. is still the answer.

Kadarius Toney injury could open door for OBJ in KC

Kansas City has Super Bowl aspirations. Even if Toney comes back fully healthy and no worse for wear, he doesn’t look like the kind of player who makes the difference between the Super Bowl and a playoff exit. He hasn’t had the availability to prove otherwise.

And he’s dealing with a hamstring injury, which is a notoriously nagging ailment. There’s no certainty he’ll even be up to the task of strengthening the receiving corps when he gets back.

The Chiefs can hang onto their hopes about Toney getting healthy, but they should also do their due diligence on OBJ, especially because he could ultimately land on one of their championship rivals instead.

If, and it’s an admittedly big if at this point, Beckham Jr. is healthy enough to contribute to a playoff run, he’s exactly the kind of player the Chiefs need. He did it for Los Angeles. Even coming off a knee injury, he could do it for Kansas City.
