San Francisco 49ers legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice called out head coach Kyle Shanahan on Instagram after Deebo Samuel’s injury in Week 14.
The San Francisco 49ers are heading in the right direction in terms of the playoffs. The issue is that they have been banged up on the offensive side of the ball. During Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the 49ers watched as wide receiver Deebo Samuel had to be carted off with an apparent injury after running up the middle of the line of scrimmage.
49ers legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice took to Instagram to seemingly call out head coach Kyle Shanahan. In a post featuring a photo of Samuel, Rice wrote a caption that read “please stop running our skill player up the middle of the field.” He listed Samuel and quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance as “all hurt.”

49ers legend Jerry Rice calls out Kyle Shanahan for play that injured Deebo Samuel
For those unaware, Lance and Garoppolo were also injured when running the football for the 49ers. Lance did so in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, and he suffered a fractured ankle that ended his season. Then in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins, Garoppolo broke his foot when he was sacked on the team’s opening drive.
Luckily for Samuel, it appears the injury he suffered isn’t too serious.
According to theScore NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Samuel didn’t suffer a knee injury. Rather, he “badly twisted his ankle,” and the 49ers are confident that he’ll be okay, but he will undergo additional tests.
Early indications are that #49ers WR Deebo Samuel did not suffer a serious injury, sources tell @theScore. I’m told the First-Team All-Pro WR badly twisted his ankle, but the team is optimistic he’s okay. Deebo will undergo more tests as a precaution.

49ers fans will breath a sigh of relief once further examination confirms that Samuel’s injury isn’t serious. As for Rice, he’d like to see less running plays up the middle for San Francisco’s star players.
