There has been a new update on Dansby Swansonās free agency, and Atlanta Braves fans wonāt like it.
Two of the top-tier free agent shortstops are gone, but two remain unsigned. Trea Turner agreed to an 11-year, $300 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, and Xander Bogaerts joined the San Diego Padres on an 11-year, $280 million deal. Dansby Swanson still remains on the open market, but has a plethora of suitors. Thereās now a new update on Swanson, and Atlanta Braves fans wonāt like it.
According to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman, Swanson āappears to be a possibilityā for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Heyman does note that the Braves āremain stealthy or quiet.ā
Swanson joining the Dodgers could very well be Braves fansā worst nightmare.
MLB rumors: Dodgers a āpossibilityā for Dansby Swanson
If Swanson were to agree to a deal with the Dodgers, it would be the second consecutive year in which a prominent Braves infielder signed with the NL West team. Last winter, first baseman Freddie Freeman and the Braves were unable to reach an agreement on a deal. That prompted Atlanta to pull off a trade for first baseman Matt Olson from the Oakland Athletics, while Freeman signed a six-year, $162 million deal with Los Angeles.
Interesting to note that Excel Sports Management represents Swanson. Thatās the very agency who Freeman had last offseason when he signed with the Dodgers.
The Dodgers do have a need at shortstop, as they watched Turner sign a deal with the Phillies (and turn down a lucrative offer from the Padres). Swanson remains one of two top shortstops available in free agency, alongside Carlos Correa.
Other teams linked to Swanson in free agency include the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, and Boston Red Sox.
You can now add the Dodgers as a potential landing spot for Swanson. Now, we wait to see where Swanson ultimately decides to sign.
