NFL Twitter destroys Deshaun Watson for another Browns loss
NFL Twitter let Deshaun Watson have it after the Browns quarterback couldn’t manage what Baker Mayfield and Jacoby Brissett could against the Bengals.
The Browns invested more than $230 million and lost the respect of many an NFL fan in order to bring Deshaun Watson to Cleveland. He was supposed to be the quarterback that changed their fortunes. He was supposed to be worth the hassle.
After two games, he isn’t close to meeting those expectations.
Watson and the Browns faced off with the Bengals on Sunday, producing just 10 points in a 13-point loss. NFL Twitter wasn’t impressed.

Watson threw his first touchdown with the Browns late in the third quarter. By then Cincinnati already had a sizable lead. It was hardly a consolation since it came while trailing by 17 and it took Watson seven quarters to find seven points.
All told, Watson had 276 yards for one touchdown and one interception. He attempted 42 passes, completing 61.9 percent of them. The Browns special teams and defense weren’t able to make up for the lack of offensive production the way they were in Watson’s first start against the Texans last week.
The Browns had had Joe Burrow’s number since he came into the league. Jacoby Brissett led the way in a 32-13 victory earlier this year. Case Keenum and Baker Mayfield quarterbacked Cleveland to wins over the division rival last year. In 2020, Mayfield had two wins over Burrow and Cincinnati.
It turned out all Burrow needed for the opposing QB to be Watson instead.
Cleveland is now 5-8 with games against Baltimore, New Orleans, Washington and Pittsburgh coming up. Their hopes of making the playoffs have been crushed, so they will have to look at the season’s final four games as a proving ground for Watson and the offense.
