Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurtsā NFL MVP chances were made stronger, thanks in part to this Patrick Mahomes statistic.
As the season progresses, the number of NFL MVP candidates dwindle down. Recently, the favorites were considered to be Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Well if Week 14 was anything to go by, Hurts may have the advantage.
The Eagles destroyed the New York Giants 48-22 on the road to become the very first team to clinch a playoff berth this season. Hurts was unstoppable, as he threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns, while running for 77 yards and a score in the victory.
Hurtsā NFL MVP chances may have been made stronger, thanks to Mahomes. In the Chiefsā 34-28 win over the Denver Broncos, Mahomes threw three interceptions. Thatās right, Mahomes threw as many interceptions in this game as Hurts has thrown all season.

The Chiefs got off to an early 27-0 lead over the Broncos, and Mahomes did amaze the viewing audience during that stretch. For example, his unreal touchdown pass to running back Jerrick McKinnon.
But then, the momentum shifted in the favor of Denver late in the first half, due in part to two interceptions thrown by Mahomes. The Broncos were able to capitalize off both picks with touchdowns.
Mahomesā final interception on the game came late in the fourth quarter, which allowed the Broncos to gain possession while down 34-28. A touchdown would have won the game for Denver. Instead, quarterback Brett Rypienās pass intended for wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was intercepted by cornerback LaāJarius Sneed. That clinched the victory for the Chiefs.
In the win, Mahomes completed 28-of-42 pass attempts for 352 yards, three touchdowns and the aforementioned three interceptions.
Meanwhile, Hurts made some history, becoming the first quarterback to ever run for 10 touchdowns in consecutive seasons in the NFL.
There are still four more weeks remaining in the season, and this battle between Hurts and Mahomes for the NFL MVP award could very well go down to the wire. But after Week 14, it may be Hurts who has the edge.
