2022 NFL power rankings, Week 15: Eagles clinch playoff spot
Just over half of the Week 14 slate featured divisional matchups. More than a few first-place teams made statements. It’s the latest NFL Power Rankings.
It is down-the-stretch time when it comes to the NFL’s 103rd season. A total of 14 weeks down and now four weeks to go. For the remainder of 2022, there are no more off-weeks for the 32 clubs.
To date, the Philadelphia Eagles are the only team to wrap up a postseason berth. That could change in a hurry. There’s football on Thursday night, Saturday, Sunday and Monday night in Week 15. How did this recent slate affect the NFL Power Rankings?
The Texans made the short trip to Arlington and took on the Cowboys. Lovie Smith’s team was once again feisty and put up a great fight. Quarterback Davis Mills exited the game briefly and Jeff Driskel threw a 28-yard TD pass to Amari Rodgers in the second quarter.
Houston owned a 23-17 lead after three quarters. The Texans’ defense could not prevent Dallas from driving 98 yards in the final minutes. Make it eight straight losses for Smith’s club.
Second-year pro Justin Fields has been a bright spot for a team that is currently in the basement of the NFC North and riding a six-game losing streak. He has thrown for 1,896 yards and 13 scores. He’s also run for a club-high 905 yards and seven TDs. There have been 11 turnovers but the talented playmaker has been sacked 40 times.
Matt Eberflus’ defense has been abysmal, giving up 37 offensive TDs in 13 games. The Bears own a 0-4 divisional record.
This has arguably been the AFC’s most disappointing team in 2022. The Colts have won just four games under head coaches Frank Reich and Jeff Saturday. The team has also utilized two starting quarterbacks in Matt Ryan and Sam Ehlinger.
A season ago, Indianapolis finished second in the NFL with 33 takeaways. This year, the club leads the league with 26 turnovers and has forced only 12 turnovers. The team has been outscored 165-81 in the first half.
The reigning Super Bowl champions took a six-game losing streak into its Thursday night clash with the rejuvenated Raiders. After one series, newly-arrived quarterback Baker Mayfield took over for John Wolford.
Despite limited preparation, the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft overcame four sacks and threw for 230 yards and one TD. Mayfield found Van Jefferson for a 23-yard score with 10 seconds to play as the Rams overcame a 13-point deficit.
