Why Cowboys will be fine without Odell Beckham Jr: The rushing attack is this offense’s biggest strength

The other side of the offense is actually this team’s biggest strength. As good as Dak has been, the rushing attack has been even better. Between Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard, the Cowboys’ ground game is the biggest reason why they were able to survive without their starting quarterback earlier in the year.

Heading into Week 15, the Cowboys are 7th in the NFL in rushing, totaling over 144 yards per game. They have managed to keep their two-headed monster healthy and both of these backs look ready to do some major work in the postseason.

Without another weapon in the passing game, the Cowboys can continue to focus on establishing their run each week without having another mouth to feed through the air. Pollard’s ascension has given Dallas reason to ensure he is involved each week, which is a good enough reason to have avoided Beckham altogether.

Had Pollard not become the guy he is, then maybe you could have argued the offense needed another weapon. But, this offense is perfectly balanced as it is, and it begins with the run game.

If the Cowboys are going to win a Super Bowl, they’re going to need to start on the ground. Look around at some other NFC hopefuls. The Eagles and Vikings both give up over 115 rushing yards per game, which could play right into Dallas’ strength. This is a running football team, and Beckham wouldn’t have helped in that department.
