Why Cowboys will be fine without Odell Beckham Jr: They’re better off not banking on questionable health

One of the biggest concerns when it comes to any team signing Beckham, right now, is whether or not he’ll be fully healthy in the near future. It was once thought that he could end up playing toward the end of the regular season. However, doubt continued to creep in throughout this courtship process.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan recently that he was “not confident” when it came to signing Beckham, which plays right into the thought that Beckham might not be ready to play until the postseason.

This is a 10-3 football team that looks every bit of a Super Bowl contender at the moment. To bank on the health of a receiver like Beckham would have been foolish, because he is going to want the football. His track record speaks for itself. He’s always been a guy who vocally desires the football.

If he cannot play until the postseason, he and Prescott would have little to no chemistry built, his health would still be a question mark, and those simply aren’t risks the Cowboys should have taken — especially not on the playoff stage.

There is something to be said about continuity, and the Cowboys have exactly that. Their offensive weaponry is healthy and intact, and adding an outspoken question mark right before the games matter the most would have been a bad decision.
