College Football Playoff National Championship Game Matchup No. 3: TCU vs Ohio State

Having a matchup between TCU and Ohio State at No. 3 in these rankings of the ones possible for the natty speaks to how strong and entertaining the field is this season. Because if the Horned Frogs and Buckeyes were to tango at SoFi Stadium on Monday, Jan. 9, it could be one of the best games of the entire season.

Frankly, this is the type of head-to-head showdown that both teams would want to be in. TCU’s defense has improved over the year but has remained highly susceptible to big plays and isn’t the most physical unit on the planet. That plays right into what Ohio State wants to do with C.J. Stroud and this passing offense aided by Marvin Harrison Jr. and a 5-star buffet of receivers.

On the opposite side, though, the one thing that we’ve seen from the Buckeyes defense is that they are not as susceptible to explosive plays as TCU but that can be had and, more importantly, they’ve also shown to be had through a strong and dynamic rushing attack, something that Max Duggan and Kendre Miller can throw at them consistently throughout this game.

Put simply, this game has all of the makings of what would be a shootout. And on the biggest stage with the national championship on the line, there’s no denying that would be entertaining.

At the end of the day, however, we want to see the best teams play in almost any scenario when it comes to the National Championship Game, so to see the teams that are objectively the worst in the field of four playing for the title would lead to a small feeling that it was lackluster — probably more so than it should, but that’s life.
