Morocco vs. France live stream World Cup 2022 semifinals on Dec. 14
Underdogs Morocco and defending champions France meet on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar in the World Cup semifinals. Here’s how to watch.
Morocco, the first team from Africa to ever reach a World Cup semifinal, will play France, the defending world champions, on Wednesday. The winner will stamp their ticket to Sunday’s World Cup final.
France, featuring strikers Kylian Mbappe and Oliver Giroud, are the favorites to advance after eliminating England 2-1 on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
“We are closer to the final and this was an important achievement [Saturday] and we can believe, but we have an important game on Wednesday,” France manager Didier Deschamps told reporters. “In the past, the world champions didn’t always do well in the next World Cup and we’ve managed to do that.”
Morocco, however, are once again the underdogs, a role that has served them well after they bounced Portugal out of the tournament 1-0 on Saturday in their quarterfinal clash.
Morocco’s run to the semifinals is historic. The Moroccans have allowed just one goal in five matches. In Qatar, Morocco became the fourth African nation to make the quarterfinals of a World Cup. Cameroon first made the quarterfinals in 1990, followed by Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010.
“Pinch me, I’m dreaming,” Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou said following the Portugal win. “Morocco is ready to face anyone in the world. We have changed the mentality of the generation coming after us. They’ll know Moroccan players can perform miracles.”
Les Bleus and the Atlas Lions have never met at a World Cup.
