Twins should add pitching, or Carlos Rodon

Minnesota needs some rotation help. It was floated as recently as a last week that they’d be willing to trade 2022 batting champion Luis Arraez for some starting pitching help.

They should hold onto Arraez, even if they don’t believe in his sustainability, and sign a player like Carlos Rodon instead. Of course, every team should sign Rodon, which is why seemingly every team has been linked to his services.

Minnesota now has an edge. While San Francisco and the Yankees have spent the majority of their free-agent capital already, the Twins have not. Christian Vazquez didn’t come free, sure, but Correa leaves a void in Minnesota’s payroll, which they can use on players like Swanson and Rodon should they wish.

Rodon would become the ace of the Twins pitching staff, which should be a bargaining chip if they spin it the right way. For two straight years, Rodon has proven himself. He’s no longer the oft-injured starter who couldn’t be counted on. Last season alone, the right-hander threw to a career-best 2.28 FIP and a 2.88 ERA. He’s finished in the top-6 in Cy Young voting the past two years, as well.

Rodon has earned the seven-year contract he’s seeking. The Twins should give it to him.
