Thursday Night Football features a matchup with serious implications on the NFC Playoff Picture.

It seems that whenever the Seahawks and 49ers get together, it’s never a normal night. To be fair, the Seahawks almost never play a normal game and matchups between NFC West teams are hardly ever predictable.

What makes this Thursday’s matchup even better are the stakes. San Francisco has its sights set on the No. 2 seed in the NFC and can move a step closer to that with a win over Seattle. Not only that, but a win would put the Seahawks back in the NFL Playoff Picture, as Seattle is trying to snag a Wild Card spot if it can’t storm back and take a division title.

NFL Live Stream for 49ers vs. Seahawks

Outside of two games this year, all Thursday night games are being streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The only games Jeff Bezos was unable to secure were the first Thursday night game of the year and the prime time game on Thanksgiving.

Both of those games went to NBC as part of its rights deal with the NFL.

So like the bulk of this year’s other games on Thursday, the 49ers and Seahawks will only be available on Prime.

How many primetime games do Seattle Seahawks have this year?

It turns out the gamble schedule makers made before the season was wrong. Despite not having Russell Wilson under center, the Seahawks are a good team this season and probably worth some prime time slots.

That’s not what was expected, and the schedule reflects that. This Thursday night game is just the second prime time game the Seahawks have and it also happens to be their last. The only other possible option for Seattle would be if they get flexed into a Sunday Night Football slot but given that their final three games are against the Chiefs (which is a Saturday afternoon game), Jets, and Rams it seems unlikely.

How many primetime games do the San Francisco 49ers have this year?

The San Francisco 49ers are in the exact opposite position as the Seahawks when it comes to prime time games. The Niners were slotted into five prime time games this season, which is the maximum allowed number of times a team can be scheduled in prime time before the season.

Who would have thought, though, when this game was penciled in that the Seahawks would have the edge at quarterback. Brock Purdy has exploded onto the scene, but an injury may keep him out of a showdown with Geno Smith — which is surely what schedule makers were envisioning when they put this game on the books.

Last time 49ers and Seahawks won on Thursday Night Football

This will be just the fifth time in NFL history that the Seahawks and 49ers have met on a Thursday night, although it’s the third time in the last decade. Seattle has played a total of 17 games on a Thursday night, and comes into tonight’s game with an 11-6 record.

San Francisco, on the other hand, are playing for the 22nd time on Thursday and come into the matchup with an 11-9-1 record. The Niners haven’t won a Thursday night game since 2019, though, beating the Cardinals 28-25 but losing to the Titans and Packers in subsequent seasons.

Seattle’s luck is a little better. Pete Carroll’s crew ironically beat the Cardinals the last time the Seahawks won on Thursday but lost their last appearance in 2021. That being said, Seattle comes into the contest riding the hot hand of being winners in 9 of its last 10 Thursday night games.

Seahawks vs. 49ers matchup history

  • Seattle leads the all-time matchup 29-18
  • Last Meeting: Sept. 18, 2022 – 49ers 27, Seahawks 7

Despite the recent dominance by the 49ers, the Seahawks are one of the few teams to have had their number over the years. San Francisco won the last meeting between the two teams, but that snapped a 4-game losing streak and marked the first time this decade that the Niners were able to beat their NFC West rivals.

All-time, the Seahawks have had the upper hand. You have to go all the way back to 2012 to find the last time San Francisco posted back-to-back wins over Seattle.
