3 moves the Cubs need to make after Dansby Swanson signing
By Scott Rogust
The Chicago Cubs won the Dansby Swanson sweepstakes on Saturday, but there are still other moves the team can make this offseason.
The Chicago Cubs entered this offseason looking to bring in a new shortstop for the foreseeable future. Luckily for them, they had four top-tier free agents at the position available. But after Trea Turner, Xander Bogaerts, and Carlos Correa were taken off the board, that left Dansby Swanson as the last available in the group of four.
Luckily for the Cubbies, they were not shut out for a shortstop. On Saturday, the Cubs and Swanson agreed to terms for a seven-year, $177 million contract.
While this was a gigantic addition for the Cubs, there is still work to be done for the Cubs if they want to compete in 2023 and beyond. Here are three moves they should make this offseason…

No. 3: Sign Trey Mancini, 1B
One of the glaring needs that the Cubs have is at first base. The big-name options are all gone, as Anthony Rizzo re-signed with the New York Yankees, and Jose Abreu joined the Houston Astros on a three-year deal. There are still some quality options available in free agency.
Trey Mancini stands out.
Mancini spent the majority of his career with the Baltimore Orioles, and he had a solid first half of the 2022 campaign with the team. In 92 games with the Orioles, Mancini recorded a .268 batting average, a .347 on-base percentage, a .404 slugging percentage, 10 home runs, 41 RBI, and 95 hits.
At the trade deadline, Mancini was dealt to the Astros, where he split time at first base, designated hitter, and the outfield. When all was said and done, Mancini won his first World Series title.
The Cubs are already linked to Mancini this offseason. It would make sense to bring him in for at least the 2023 season.
