Who the Vikings should be most worried about in Super Bowl pursuit: The San Francisco 49ers

It does not matter who is healthy in San Francisco. Every year, it seems they get hot at just the right time.

To start the season, second-year pro Trey Lance was under center. After a season-ending injury, the team reverted to Jimmy Garoppolo. Now, it’s “Mr. Irrelevant,” Brock Purdy, who has recently been banged up.

No matter who is playing quarterback, though, the two constants for this 49ers team are their run game and defense. As long as they have the bulk of their playmakers on defense, that unit is so well coached, that they’ll continue to be dominant in both facets.

Offensively, Kyle Shanahan is one of the best in the game when it comes to scheming his players open and staying creatively committed to the run. Shanahan has never been one to be intimidated out of sticking to his offense. Whether it’s a starter or backup at quarterback or running back, he is going to call his brand of football.

And that brand just wins football games.

The best defense in the league resides in San Francisco, and one of the most creative offensive minds does as well. The Vikings should absolutely be worried about this 49ers team that knocked Aaron Rodgers and the Packers out of the postseason a year ago.
