3 biggest causes for concern after Chiefs barely survive lowly Texans

No. 2: Teams are scoring more than average vs. the Chiefs

In the end, football is a simple game. Score more points than your opponent and you win.

The Chiefs have managed to do that more often than not this year but they’re also flirting with disaster far more than a Super Bowl contender should.

When they won the whole thing in 2019, KC’s defense gave up 18.7 points per game in the regular season. They ended up giving 25 points per game in the postseason. That’s just what happens when the heat is on.

This year, the Chiefs are giving up 23 points per game. What’ll they do when the heat is on?

The signs right now aren’t great. The Broncos and Texans each scored considerably higher their scoring average of 13.8 and 15.7 points per game respectively in the last two games for the KC defense.

In fact, four of the last five opponents have outperformed their scoring average. And the Rams were starting Bryce Perkins when they were held to just 10 points. That was hardly a test.
