Watch Mac Jones get stiff armed into the dirt on dumbest play in NFL history (Video)

The Patriots finally fell victim to NFL stupidity after all these years. A reckoning was long overdue for the franchise which won six Super Bowls with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

Clearly, someone forgot the score. It’s the only way this Patriots lateral play at the end of regulations makes sense.

Is the league rigged? Usually, I would consider that a useless take, and not one based in reality. But after the end to the Patriots-Raiders game, one can help but wonder. To make matters even funnier, the matchup took place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Explain to me why any of that was necessary.

Patriots lose on insane last-second turnover

New England opted to run the ball on the final play of regulation in a tie game. Best-case scenario, it forces overtime. Worst-case scenario? You just watched it.

Rhamondre Stevenson took the handoff and ran about 30 yards downfield, give or take. He then lateraled the ball to Jakobi Meyers, who ran a few yards backwards and chucked the ball across the field. That attempt failed for obvious reasons, and was picked off by Chandler Jones. On his runback, Jones got a free shot at the quarterback, and he did not miss.

We’re sorry, Mac Jones. You were an innocent bystander in this chaos.

If it were up to Jones, the Patriots would be playing in overtime right now. Unfortunately, they’re either poorly-coached (unlikely, see Belichick, Bill), or Meyers went rogue. We’re gonna go with the latter, as Meyers didn’t seem to expect the lateral from Stevenson in the first place, which likely led him to believe that New England needed a touchdown at that point in the game.

A lack of situational awareness took over in Vegas. I have no answers — only questions.
