Here is what a Chicago Cubs lineup that includes Dansby Swanson could look like in 2023.

With the news that the Chicago Cubs have inked free agent shortstop Dansby Swanson to a seven-year, $177 million deal, some of the questions surrounding the franchise heading into next season were answered. Swanson becomes one of the new faces for the Wrigley Field faithful to cheer while also adding some potential pop to a Cubs lineup that was in need of a boost.

Swanson’s presence also elevates the middle infield defense for Chicago. Joining forces with Nico Hoerner at second base, Chicago has pieced together one of the most solid up-the-middle pairs in MLB next season.

The duo might not only team up in the middle of the infield, but also at the top of the Chicago batting order next season, but more about that in a moment.

Chicago Cubs hoping Dansby Swanson becomes centerpiece of turnaround

Swanson leaving the Braves for the Cubs after piecing together a banner season (slashing .277/.329/.447 with 25 home runs and a career-high 96 RBI) signifies that Chicago is hoping to once again contend in the National League Central. After tearing down the old core that helped win the 2016 World Series, the Cubs appear ready to start their ascent back up the standings from last season’s 74-88 mark.

Much of that ascent will not only be on Swanson’s back, but also some returning faces and young players who could be counted upon heavily next season.
