5 biggest NFL Pro Bowl snubs that fans should be upset about, No. 2: Christian McCaffrey, RB, San Francisco 49ers
The fan votes for the Pro Bowl actually count for one-third of who makes the roster. Players make up one third, as do coaches. So, these players didn’t get the player and coach votes.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey received the most votes out of running backs, but he missed the cut.
He started off the season with the Carolina Panthers, and after six games, he was dealt to the 49ers. Since joining the loaded 49ers offense, McCaffrey thrived. He did, after all, managed to record a passing touchdown, a rushing touchdown, and a receiving touchdown in just his second game with the 49ers.
With the 49ers, McCaffrey recorded 534 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 115 carries, while catching 41 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns on 51 targets.
The running backs who made it onto the NFC roster include Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants, Miles Sanders of the Philadelphia Eagles, and Tony Pollard of the Dallas Cowboys. As David Lombardi of The Athletic points out, McCaffrey actually led all three in all-purpose yards.
Maybe McCaffrey would have been a no-brainer had he played a full season with the 49ers.
5 biggest NFL Pro Bowl snubs that fans should be upset about, No. 1: Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Miami Dolphins
Another one of the big snubs in terms of winning the fan vote and not making the Pro Bowl is Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. He led not only all quarterbacks, but every player. Yet, he didn’t receive the votes from players and coaches to make the roster.
Tagovailoa has had the year that fans have been waiting for. The Dolphins hired a head coach who knows how to scheme up the best possible plays for his players to succeed in Mike McDaniel, and the front office gave him a top pass catching option in Tyreek Hill to pair alongside fellow speedster Jaylen Waddle. Simply put, Tagovailoa has thrived.
This year, Tagovailoa leads the NFL with a touchdown when attempting a pass percentage (6.7), yards gained per pass attempt (8.6), yards gained per pass completion (13.3), and quarterback rating (107.8). Additionally, Tagovailoa recorded 3,238 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
Tagovailoa may have made the fan vote, but he wasn’t viewed better than Mahomes, Allen, and Burrow by those in the league.
