College Football Festivus Airing of Grievances No. 4: Kansas’ dream start spiraling down with a quickness and killed our dreams too

Those with short-term memories might forget that when Kansas and TCU went into their Dec. 8 matchup, it was a battle of two unlikely undefeated contenders. TCU came out on top in that game in an absolute thriller that was competitive even after star quarterback Jalon Daniels went out injured. Of course, things turned out much differently for the two programs thereafter.

With Daniels out and the defense still an issue, Kansas’ dream start got utterly derailed. They ended up losing three straight including the TCU loss after a 5-0 start and lost 6 of the last seven to finish at a paltry 6-6. This team was the darling of the college football world and I hated every second of watching it fall apart.

The Jayhawks even making it to a bowl game in the second year under Lance Leipold speaks to what could be brewing in Lawrence and is not a feat to scoff at. Simultaneously, though, it hurts to see how the year started compared to how things finished.

College Football Festivus Airing of Grievances No. 3: Hendon Hooker’s injury ruining Tennessee QB’s Heisman chances was just unfair

All due respect to Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett IV and what he has accomplished as the starter for the Bulldogs, but the fact that he was in New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony while Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker was watching at home doesn’t sit right with me.

Hooker was well on his way to a finalist spot before suffering a torn ACL that ended his season in the shocking Vols loss to South Carolina. But even while only playing in 11 games this season, the quarterback’s performance was truly unreal as he threw for 3,135 yards, 27 touchdowns and only two interceptions while also rushing for 430 yards and five more scores.

You can’t tell the story of the 2022 college football season without Hendon Hooker and Tennessee, even if they came up short. The fact that Hooker didn’t get the honor he earned in the Heisman race was not the way things should’ve transpired as it felt like his injury was an excuse to just leave him out.
