5 wide receivers the Bears need for 2023 to not waste Justin Fields any longer, No. 2: JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kansas City Chiefs

Now, we get to the free agency class in the 2023 league year. To be perfectly honest, the options available at wide receiver are, not great. The Bears will need to act quick. When it comes to who stands above the rest, it’s JuJu Smith-Schuster.

After returning to the Steelers on a one-year deal in 2021 and playing just five games due to injury, he decided to take another one-year flier. This time, he decided to join the Kansas City Chiefs to catch passes from superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Smith-Schuster is having a solid season with the Chiefs, playing a part in filling the void left by Tyreek Hill, who was traded to the Miami Dolphins. He leads all wide receivers in receptions (96) and receiving yards (877), while hauling in three touchdowns.

However this season ends for the Chiefs, Smith-Schuster will probably command a lucrative deal in free agency. The Bears should be one of the teams that sends him an offer, as he could thrive with Fields throwing him passes.

Of course, the big name in free agency will be Odell Beckham Jr. After going on a much-publicized free agency tour late this season, notably visiting the Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, and New York Giants, no deal has materialized. With that, the expectation is that Beckham will wait until the new league year to pursue his next contract.

Beckham had a career resurgence once he signed with the Los Angeles Rams. He helped put the Rams offense over the top, and helped them win Super Bowl 56 over the Cincinnati Bengals. The reason why Beckham was unsigned is due to the fact that he tore his ACL in the first half of the big game. That is something that teams are monitoring, especially since this is the second time he suffered that injury.

When healthy, Beckham is one of the more electrifying receivers in the game, and would be an incredible get for any team.

If all is well with his knee, the Bears should try to sign Beckham, where he would instantly become Fields’ top wide receiver.
