Ranking Jets’ 3 best Zach Wilson replacements as team moves on
The Jets are reportedly done with Zach Wilson, which means they’ll be hunting for a replacement. Their options range from uninspiring to great.
Zach Wilson is finished as a Jet.
At least, that’s what Jay Glazer is reporting after the quarterback found himself benched in favor of fourth-stringer Chris Streveler. The team has apparently lost all confidence in Wilson, who has also lost confidence in himself.
Now the expectation is New York will move on to someone else. It’s just not immediately clear who that will be.
Sam Darnold will be a free agent this offseason, but that scenario is more funny than plausible. Instead, New York could look at these options.
Ranking the Jets’ Zach Wilson replacement options
No. 10 — Stick with Mike White
Mike White took over for Wilson earlier this season and showed some small signs of promise before injuring his ribs. However, with a 1-2 record and a 3-2 TD-INT ratio, White doesn’t exactly scream “future of the franchise.”
If the plan is to turn to the draft, moving forward with White on the cheap makes more sense.
No. 9 — Sign Jacoby Brissett
Jacoby Brissett got a bit of time in the shop window while filling in for the suspended Deshaun Watson in Cleveland. He did alright with 2,608 yards and 12 touchdowns, with six interceptions in 11 starts. But is alright good enough for the Jets?
No. 8 — Sign Baker Mayfield
The Browns and Panthers gave up on Mayfield but his recent starts with the Rams suggest he does still have something to give a team. He’s an obvious reclamation project.
