Top 5 Worst NFL Coaches, No. 4: Bill Peterson

When you coach only 18 games in your entire NFL career and only win one single game, that confines you to the bottom of the barrel. But Bill Peterson isn’t the worst coach to crack the list, even if his record might be, with a winning percentage of 0.053. That’s a miserable record to own.

What’s ironic is that despite being a terrible coach, Peterson’s coaching tree was quite impressive. Several iconic coaches got their first gig under his watch, including Bobby Bowden, Bill Parcells, Joe Gibbs, and Earl Bruce. He knew how to find good coaches but couldn’t do it himself.

There were several talented players during that time, including defensive end Elvin Bethea and underrated quarterback Dan Pastorini. They had to bear the Peterson era, and it hurt them significantly. That tenure will forever go down as one of the worst in the Houston football era, including the low years of the Texans.
