3 more missteps that will get Ryan Day fired at Ohio State, starting vs Georgia
2. Ryan Day losing to Michigan for the third straight year would put him on the Ohio State hot seat
As mentioned previously, there were a couple of relative scares for Ohio State throughout the 2022 season but, at the end of the day, there is just too much talent on the field for the Buckeyes for them to realistically get beat for 60 minutes by teams like Penn State, Northwestern or Notre Dame. The one boogeyman for this team over the past two seasons has been the one team a head coach has to beat more often than not: Michigan.
Point blank, the way that OSU stacks up against the majority of the Big Ten and, frankly, most of the teams that they’ll see on the non-conference schedule is going to work out in Ryan Day’s favor. There are only so many teams that can cover a bevy of 5-star receivers or eliminate their effectiveness consistently by getting pressure on the quarterback.
While that may be true, Jim Harbaugh has taken a calculated approach in the way Michigan’s roster has been built in recent years to essentially challenge the brand of football that Day and the Buckeyes are trying to play and the results have been two big, lopsided wins in The Game. That’s something that Day can’t allow to continue.
Should Ohio State get pushed around by Georgia in the Playoff, then rinse and repeat what happened in the 2022 season by going perfect through the first 11 games only to then head to the Big House and get pushed around again, that’s going to start up the “fire Ryan Day” talk in the realest way yet.
